Thursday (hers): Fish sticks

Started with a caprese salad and ended with fish sticks and fries. A pack of 12 fish sticks was only 1.00.

Tuesday and Wednesday (His): Happy 100 and 101 Post!

Tuesday's dinner, Kung Pao Chicken, was the leftovers from Monday's dinner plus rice. Pretty good, but not great. I still haven't found an excellent place for Chinese food in Gville. This was from a pan-Asian Japanese-emphasis restaurant called Ichiban downtown. I went there Monday night after seminar with a couple of friends. A $10 meal became suddenly more affordable when I was able to stretch it out over lunch and dinner the next day.
And then Wednesday's dinner was Red Barron pizza. It was on sale for $2.99! How could I pass it up? I went to the grocery store and bought some steaks, but by the time I got home, I needed a quick fix. Hence, the scary nuclear looking pizza.

Wednesday (hers): 100th post!

It looks like I have the honor or making the 100th post on our food blog! We've come such a long way, and I have enjoyed both posting and reading the entries on this blog.

Every now and then a recipe comes along that you make and actually want to make again. I can't even tell you how many failed recipes I have gone through, but today is a special day. I recently bought a jar of capers because I love capers, but had never cooked with them before. I googled "pasta capers" and the first thing to come up was the food network's Pasta with Tuna, Tomatoes, Garlic, Capers, and Olives. The recipe sounded good and got excellent reviews, so I decided to go for it tonight. It was truly delicious. Light, fresh, and tangy tasting. I can't wait to make it for "him" this summer.

Tuesday (hers): the Original egg thing & chinese broccoli

Opted to cook tonight and make a balanced meal. I made the original egg thing (with egg roll filling) and a side of chinese broccoli. Both were excellent with my dad's sauce recipe.

Monday (hers): Lucali Leftovers

My lucali leftovers! I bought a can of hunt's tomato sauce (69 cents) and shredded some parmesan on top to try to recreate the Lucali sauce experience.

Sunday (hers): Lucali

No pic cuz I had to keep my camera in my pocket. The king and queen of hip hop were in attendance, so I didn't want to look like a fan girl and get clocked by the bodyguard. I had a mushroom calzone. so amazingly delicious.

Sunday (His): Fancy Ramen, or, Rad Thai!

After receiving a link from "her" on how to upgrade my ramen, I tried making the Rad Thai. I had about half a dozen shrimp left over from the cajun pasta, so this was a perfect choice. All I needed to do was run to the store for bean sprouts and peanuts. All in all, it was pretty good. Definitely a more "sophisticated"-- i.e. less unabashedly gross; it require some effort, but not much -- alternative to just plan ramen. Next time, I'll probably let the noodles cook for even less -- they were a little too soft -- and maybe add some different seasoning. Where's the sriracha sauce when you need it?

Saturday (his): gazpacho and paella

Went to a lovely dinner party in the nearby town of Melrose. A friend and former teacher was visiting, and I drove out with a friend and current poetry teacher. That's Peter, the host, preparing the paella we would have for dinner. I would have like to take a pic of the final spread, but didn't want to disrupt the mood. For appetizers, Peter make lightly breaded calamari, which I could have eaten forever. Dinner consisted of gazpacho and delicious paella and drinking and talking. The mix of seafood and wine went to my head. But it was a most pleasurable night of good food and company.

Saturday (hers): Serendipity

I went to Serendipity 3 with my sister last night and got meatloaf and mashed potatoes (yummy) and the famous frozen hot chocolate. It was worth the 2 hours wait in my opinion. The frozen hot chocolate tasted like nothing I had ever tried before. Also, it was just fun gazing at the other patrons at the restaurant. Mostly it was mother-daughter combos and middle aged women who seemed like they had come to the city for a fun shopping day.

Friday (hers): Kraft Mac and Cheese

I made Kraft Mac and Cheese from the blue box and discovered that using real butter v. margarine makes a huge difference. Wow that's tasty, and fatty and bad. I then decided to make some parmesan oven fries, which were really good. You had to parboil the potatoes first so that the cook time in the oven wouldn't be as long, but it still took a long time. I ate all of this on the couch while watching T2.

Friday (his): BBQ Pork, collard greens, buttered toast, Oxford American, and a fly

Tried out this place called Adam's Rib after doing some work at a Starbuck's that's further out on 13th St. Is was pretty good, not great. I was a little surprised that my 1/2 lb BBQ pork came out in a pile, but I guess I should have read it more carefully. Thought they'd be on ribs. But then I'd have to order the ribs, duh. The service from the younger two workers was fine until I paid my check. Some different, older guy pretty much didn't say anything while I paid my bill. I won't be going back anytime soon! Ha.

Thursday (hers): Tom Yum Soup

I was so tired today so I did the typical working woman dining for one thing--I ordered mediocre takeout and ate it alone in my apartment. I got a large tom yum soup. It was pretty good and cheap, but it clearly came from a powder or soup base because I could taste some of the granules dissolving in my mouth.

Wednesday (hers): Korean food

I forgot to take a pic of my korean food, but I got the exact same thing that I got the last time was there: tofu seafood soup and galbi.

Tuesday (hers): Grits and Eggs

I tried making grits at home for the first time and they were ok. I think I needed to put way more cheese and I needed to cook the grits with milk as opposed to water. Also, bacon would have made it good, but when isn't that the case?

Monday (hers): Steak and Chickpea salad

My sister and I made steak one night and I ate the leftovers on Monday. I made the chickpea salad again because I am addicted. Yum! You gotta try it.

Sunday (hers): Baked potato and sprouts

Ate this after dropping off my sis at the train station. My belly was full of nuts so I had to eat more lightly.

Sunday (His): Return of Cajun Pasta

Did I have this on Sunday? I believe I did. Well, I made it sometime this weekend. Since I forgot to get the good Cajun seasoning, I tried to compensate with more basil and expensive tomatoes. The result: good enough! And always good for leftovers. Yes, it was Sunday because on Saturday I made fried rice again out of the left over rice from Friday's steak night.

Friday (his): celebratory steak dinner

Had steak with rice and mushroom again. But this time I had cause for minor celebration because I just received word Friday evening that I made it to the interview round for this literary internship. The steak tasted even better the second time!

Thursday (his): Fried rice with chinese sausage

This tasted pretty good, if you ask me. You can't really see it, but I threw in a bunch of basil, cilantro, and bean sprouts. While dousing it with fish sauce, I saw that my supply was running low. Uh oh.

Saturday (hers): I'm lovin' it

I emailed this camera phone photo of my dinner. My sister and I decided to go to McDonald's and partook in the 2 for 4.00 Big Mac special that runs EVERYDAY From 5-9pm. I also ordered a small fries, and for dessert we each ordered a vanilla cone. Not something to do every week, but once in awhile is quite fun and delicious.

Friday (hers): Chickpea salad

I made this simple chickpea salad from a recipe in the latest Bon Appetit. I usually can't make the BA recipes because they are too complicated and I can't afford all of the ingredients, but all this salad required was a can of Goya garbanzo beans, olive oil, parmesan cheese, lemon juice, and basil. I will definitely make this again. It's a satisfying light meal or snack.

Thursday (hers): BBQ pork again

Leftovers! Pretty tasty again. I ate this while watching SVU.

Wednesday (hers): Chinatown Pork

I stopped in Chinatown on the way home from work to buy some fruit and chinese broccoli. Fruit was a mega bust (it's cheaper in my neighborhood..how can it be?) but I got the chinese broccoli and 1/2lb of barbecued pork. Pretty tasty! I'd do it again.

Wednesday (his): Steak!

That New York strip steak, portabella mushrooms, and rice represents a small triumph. I finally bought groceries today and made dinner for myself. Can he make it two nights in a row? Let's see....

Tuesday (hers): Steak

I couldn't think of what else to eat, so I went with steak. I got a big piece so that I would have leftovers for lunch tomorrow. I think it would be great to eat steak everyday.

Wednesday (hers): steak and salad

Made the shredded brussel sprout salad again and broiled a NY strip steak. When I'm feeling brain dead, I like to eat large pieces of meat. It was so good, and when I paid for it, the cashier asked me why i chose "that piece in particular." I explained that I liked fat and this would had a nice amount. Gross, I know.

Tuesday (hers): Tomato soup

Unfortunately I have a cold, so I made myself tomato soup. I was really craving some tangy tom yum soup, but decided it was better to spend 1.50 on tomatoes and make my own soup than spend 10.00 on takeout. I've got some fancy guests coming this week so I want to save my money for them :)

Monday (hers): Nets Fare

I went to my first NBA game on Monday night at the Prudential center. The suns battled the nets and the suns won in an OT nailbiter! Although I took tons of pictures, I somehow forgot to take a pic of my food. This is someone else's photo of his food from the prudential center, but I had the same french fries (giant crinkle cuts! and a hotdog (I don't like chicken fingers unlike someone I know very well). I also had a budweiser, which was really delicious at the time.

Sunday and Monday (His): Vietnamese elbow macaroni thingy

At least I made it myself, right? The Vietnamese elbow macaroni thingy is a cousin of the Vietnamese egg thing, also a favorite. This particular dish is good in times of hunger and need because it's super easy to make, is good leftover, and gives you that special taste of ground beef and fish sauce in your mouth.

Note: I also had this for Monday. On Monday, I also could not fight a craving to eat chicken nuggets after my seminar. Unfortunately, the price of chicken nuggets returned to their usual price. Apparently Sunday was the last day to get 10 chicken nuggets for just $2.
